An expert is one who knows more and more about less and less until he knows absolutely everything about nothing. (Nicholas Murray Butler)

Sometimes you are thinking about something and you get a new idea, but you cannot explain it to yourself how this idea could arise in your head... It is precisely the description how the idea of the DeviceImage-Project was born.

A few words about me:

My name is Jurij Ivastsuk-Kienbaum. I am married and have two children Natascha and Lukas.

I was born in the west ukrainian town Lviv (also known as Lwow, Lemberg or Leopolis) on March 1, 1956. This town is placed near the border between Poland and Ukraine.

I think this is the one of the most beautiful places in Europe.

Here I began my education in organic chemistry. Later 1981-1986 I have done my Ph.D.-work in biophysics at the Moscow State University. The subjects of my investigations were artificial lipid bilayers, membrane proteins and protein-lipid interactions. Farther my scientific interests were spread over the area of the ion-transport and the ion-pumping proteins.

Computer was always not only a very useful tool for me, but also the object of very intensive investigations. Programming and different operating systems (my favorite one is Linux/UNIX ), databases and network communication are only a few fragments of my interests. One subject among others is of especial interest for me - reliable backup methods to prevent the lost of digital data.

Since 1990 I am living in Germany. In the time between 1990 and 1999 I changed positions as scientific employee at: University of Konstanz, Philipps-University of Marburg, University of Augsburg. 1999 I have changed to the IT-branch. Currently I live in Augsburg near Munich (München).
