Hello,

I am using zsplit/unzsplit only few days.

Have created a backup image of partition with my kubuntu instalation (hda2, ext3) as well swap (hda1, linux swap) few days ago. No partition was deleted or recreated, but they both were formated in different FS (as I understand it still should not affect the results). Today I was trying to restore Kubuntu instalation from backup files, it was ok wiith swap, but i got error when restoring hda2, the debug is below:

03-09-2007 03:57:19 unzsplit: version: 1.2.0
03-09-2007 03:57:19 unzsplit: start of operation
03-09-2007 03:57:19 unzsplit: read/write buffer size: 64 kibibyte (65536 bytes).
03-09-2007 03:57:19 unzsplit: "--noerror" option in use, I/O read errors will be savely ignored
03-09-2007 03:57:19 unzsplit: inflating kubuntu20070901_0.spl.zp
03-09-2007 03:59:07 unzsplit: error in writing to output file, in: do_unzsplit() return=-5
03-09-2007 03:59:08 unzsplit: total sum of bytes read: 0; written: 0; elapsed time: 00hr:00min:00sec
03-09-2007 03:59:08 unzsplit: average speed of restoring: 0MiB/min
03-09-2007 03:59:08 unzsplit: not succeeded..., error in operation!
03-09-2007 03:59:08 unzsplit: end of operation

the command line options used to restore image are here:

sudo unzsplit -D /dev/hda2 -d -i /media/LACIE/backup/zsplit/kubuntu20070901 -r kubuntu20070901

Have also tried to add -m option, but no success :(

All the operations (backup as well) were done from kubuntu live DVD and backups were saved to USB HDD.

Backup file consists of 3 files, 2*1GB + 268MB, if it matters...

Hope somebody has any ideas, how to overcome the problem and there is some way to get back my kubuntu installation...

Edit: had a more attentive look at logand found that with -m option the following lines were NOT written to log:

03-09-2007 03:59:08 unzsplit: total sum of bytes read: 0; written: 0; elapsed time: 00hr:00min:00sec
03-09-2007 03:59:08 unzsplit: average speed of restoring: 0MiB/min

Also, when creating image, there were I/O erorrs (>200), but I have used -r option both in creating and restoring images.

Hi hmmm,

please see documentation for unzsplit. In the command-line you have used option "-i", like this:
"sudo unzsplit -D /dev/hda2 -d -i /media/LACIE/backup/zsplit/kubuntu20070901 -r kubuntu20070901"

Option "-i" means, you should use it only for input directory containing image-file to be restored.

You instead are using this option for the whole absolute path to the image-file.

For your case try following:
"sudo unzsplit -D /dev/hda2 -d -i /media/LACIE/backup/zsplit/ -r kubuntu20070901"
It should work.

Jurij

Sorry Mirzza,
following your description of the problem I cannot see that there is some relationship to zsplit/unzsplit...

Please be sure that you are in the right forum with this question.

Jurij
