Hi hmmm,

please see documentation for unzsplit. In the command-line you have used option "-i", like this:
"sudo unzsplit -D /dev/hda2 -d -i /media/LACIE/backup/zsplit/kubuntu2007090 ...

As far as I know, these tools (g4u and g4l) are script based tools.
You can do imaging from device or partition with a help of dd,
compress it with a help of gzip and then transfe ...
